Why This Redesign?

As a dedicated user of Resident Advisor (RA), I recognized opportunities to refine the platform's desktop homepage. This project focuses on improving content discoverability and user engagement through strategic UI/UX redesign. Future iterations could extend these enhancements to other pages and mobile platforms, creating a more cohesive and accessible experience.

To improve the user experience of Resident Advisor's (RA) desktop platform by optimizing its site map, thereby facilitating more efficient content discovery and navigation.

• Information overload hinders efficient content access.

• Inconsistent labeling across navigation creates user confusion.

• Key features, like ticket access, are not easily discoverable.

• Outdated UI/visual design.

Proposed Solutions

• Streamline content presentation for clarity.

• Standardize navigation labels for consistency.

• Improve visibility of essential user features.

• Implement search filters and content tags.

• Modernize UI/visual design using vivid and bold colors.

I followed a structured UX approach from discovery to delivery, mixing research, concept work, and rapid iteration to shape a festival-friendly experience.

Key Improvements

• Typography:
  Transitioned from Arial to Montserrat, addressing Arial's lack of stylistic impact and aligning with contemporary digital typography trends. This change aims to reinforce RA's iconic status with a more distinctive and modern typeface. 

• Color Palette:
  Revitalized the color scheme by introducing bold and vivid hues (#5610B5, #399AFF), replacing the previously muted palette (#B3BE1C, #6B96C2, #C4C4C4). This update injects a fresh, dynamic feel while retaining RA's signature yellow (#FBFF00) for brand recognition. 

• Navigation and Content Architecture:
  Streamlined content presentation, standardized navigation labeling, and improved the visibility of key features. Implemented search filters and content tags to enhance content discovery.

These enhancements aim to address outdated design elements and improve the overall user experience, ensuring Resident Advisor remains a relevant and engaging platform for its audience.

Closing Thoughts & Key Learnings

This redesign of RA was more than just a UI/UX project; it was a personal endeavor, a fusion of my passion for electronic music and my dedication to creating intuitive, user-centered digital experiences as both a designer and a DJ.

• Color as a Communicator:
  The transition to a more vibrant color palette highlighted the importance of color in creating a modern and engaging user experience. Color choices directly influence the perceived energy and relevance of a digital platform. 

• Information Architecture is Foundational:
  Streamlining the site map and navigation proved crucial for improving content discoverability. A clear and intuitive information architecture enhances user satisfaction and encourages exploration.

Next Steps & Future Considerations

• Mobile Responsiveness:
  Extend the redesign principles to create a seamless mobile experience, ensuring consistency across all platforms.

• Interactive Prototyping & User Testing: Develop interactive prototypes to validate design decisions and conduct user testing to gather feedback for further refinement.
